Hello December 2016

Published by under cards | Oct 12 2016

One of my favourite projects of the year is coming up – my annual Hello December album.

Hello December 2016 Album

What is a Hello December album?

Sometimes called a ‘December Daily’, Hello December is a 6″x8″ album where you record the everyday happenings, fun family activities, and festive celebrations throughout December. Hello December is the suite of products Stampin’ Up! produces to make this whole process simple, easy, coordinated and fun.

Preparing the album

With mine, I prepare the album beforehand (usually during November) and then fill it with the photos as the moments happen throughout December.

Printing the photos

I usually take the photos on my phone, then every couple of days throughout December I print them out at home.

Many places like Big W and Kmart have print kiosks now, so it’s not usually an issue to print out the photos as you go. Don’t think about it too much. Just print out the photos and cut them down with your paper trimmer if needed when you get home.

Journalling

Even for those of us who don’t like writing a lot in our albums, it’s important to record the little details. If you’re anything like me, you’ll convince yourself you won’t forget but by the next day you can’t remember what you did or even what you had for dinner!

The easiest thing I found is to write a little note to myself in the Notes app on my phone.  It might be just a little quote from the kids that I want to remember, or maybe a record of times and dates, or just some fun activities. Record these things as they happen and you won’t have to spend one minute trying to remember while you’re pulling it all together.

Hello December 2016

Hello December by Stampin’ Up!

Stampin’ Up! offers an awesome Project Life range called Hello December, and they’ve been bringing out a new one each year. This makes it soooo easy to create the album and fill it with pretty cards, places for journalling (recording the who, what, when and where) and even embellishments to make it really your own.

Want to learn more?

Check out this awesome video with Donna from Stampin’ Up!. She explains it all so well.

Here is the link to the template that Donna mentioned in the video: Hello December Project Life Page Layout Template

And another video here which shows you more about the products available in this collection.

Get started

For your convenience, here are all the products used in the video. To learn more about each of them, just click on the picture and a link will take you to the item in my store.

Order your 2016 album supplies from my online store, and I’ll be happy to email you more ideas and photos of how I embellish my album this year.

I feel passionate about this project, and I know the value in recording these memories and moments as they happen. Life changes so quickly, especially if you have young children or grandchildren. But for every one of us, no matter our stage in life, we’ll never have these days again. Our life next year will be different. Don’t underestimate the value in recording the ‘little things’ as well as the big events.

Card template using patterned papers

Using a variety of strips, punch the ends using the Triple Banner Punch. Stamp a greeting and add a ribbon for a quick, attractive card that shows off any Designer Series Paper.

Create a “window” on your Designer Series Paper using framelits or punches, then layer an image or greeting underneath. Try this template with several papers from the same collection and get a different look every time.

Stampin’ Up! Sweet Home Bundle Variations

Published by under cards | Sep 30 2016

Sweet Home bundle by Stampin' Up! - with coordinating stamps and framelitsHi friends! I’m back today to share some of those extra “Home Sweet Home bundle” creations I mentioned recently.

This is such a cute bundle by Stampin’ Up!, and I love all the extra details that make this coordinating stamp set and framelits such good value.

For these houses I paired the framelits with the Serene Scenery patterned papers. Something a bit different!

I actually love how they turned out… It was exactly as I’d hoped.

I really REALLY love this Serene Scenery paper stack.

In fact, I’m holding a class this weekend and we are using this paper stack to create our cards! It’s also World Cardmaking Day on the 1st of October… which just happens to be Grand Final Day for our footy league here in Victoria, Australia. But that won’t stop us! We are just having our class in the morning so we are free to watch the big game in the afternoon.

I love how the photo-realistic prints make awesome roof coverings.

So there you have it, just a couple more houses.

Don’t forget to check back on the 1st of October. We have some great specials to announce, in celebration of World Cardmaking Day!

Until then….

CTC 95: Stampin’ Up! Home Sweet Home

CASE-ing the Catty Sunday Blog Hop

I’m SO excited about this week’s theme! The brief was “CASE your favourite holiday catalogue 3D item”.

Oh. my. goodness. Where do you start? There are sooooo many lovely 3D projects to choose from.

But in the end there could be only one. The item that made me gasp with excitement when I saw it the very first time I look at this catty:

Stampin' Up! Home Sweet Home bundle

Seriously how adorable is that little Welcome house made with the Home Sweet Home bundle of stamp sets and thinlit dies. I love the gingerbread one too, but oh I just couldn’t wait to recreate this one with the ‘weatherboards’ and cute little windows.

Mine is super simple, but I played around with a few different versions of roofing and thought I’d share them with you today.

CTC 95: Stampin' Up!'s Home Sweet Home with covered roof join

You need 5 or 6 rows of die cut ’tiles’ for each side, or you can you use cardstock trimmed to 5.2cm wide or trimmed to the shape of the roof line.

If you have a bit of trouble getting a nice and neat join where the roof tiles meet in the middle, then try trimming a 2cm x 5.2cm piece of cardstock which is scored in the middle and fit it over the join.

Also, a teeny tiny pearl from the Rhinestone makes a lovely door handle.

The Fabulous Foil Designer Acetate is also an effective roof material.CTC 95: Stampin' Up!'s Home Sweet Home with acetate window roof

Tip: Don’t forget to first remove the thin protective film when using these acetate sheets.

Another option is embossing a cardstock panel and layering it over the roof line. Play around with different embossing folders and sponging effects to see what you come up with!

This house was so cute I couldn’t just stop at one!

In fact I made a whole series of them which I’ll be sharing in the days ahead. But for now, let’s continue on with the CTC Blog Hop and see what the lovely Liz has for us today.

The Sprinkles Punch is my favourite of these. Not only great for making the ‘confetti’ inside shaker cards, it’s also perfect for adding some sparkle to card fronts.

Here is a gorgeous card that the lovely Julia from Handmade by Julia Quinn sent me recently.

She has punched out Glimmer paper with the Sprinkles punch and it looks stunning and oh so sparkly in real life!
