Stamping with Friends… 700km Away

Published by under Big Shot,cards

The Just Believe stamp set is absolutely my number one favourite stamp set at the moment.

I loved making this card but it has a funny story behind it.

I was on the phone to my friend Mel a while back and she was trying to explain a great technique to me. Well… let's just say, I was having serious trouble 'getting it'.

Do you ever have days like that?

So Mel told me to go grab some cardstock – now! -, my Framed Tulips embossing folder, a large background stamp like Sanded (the one I used here) or Woodgrain, some ink, a sponge and my Big Shot.

I shuffled around in my craft room with the phone tucked under my ear, gathering supplies, and she walked me through the whole process.

As instructed, I first inked up the background stamp and stamped onto the plastic of the embossing folder. Then I grabbed my cardstock, placed it in the folder on the non-inked side then carefully closed it. Then I ran it through the Big Shot – it inked and embossed my cardstock all at once! The nice part about this technique is that the ink doesn't go on the raised embossed parts so you can create lots of cool effects. I stamped the middle with the gorgeous Just Believe images and sponged the raised embossed parts on the border to really make them pop.

So even though we are 700km apart it just goes to show that it's still fun to stamp with friends! Thanks Mel. I don't think I ever did show you what the finished card looked like, so here it is! xx

Deals of the Week BIG SHOT Specials

Published by under Big Shot,specials

Check out the deals this week.

If you have the Stampin' Pastels that were available in an old catalogue (prior to Sept 2010) you might like to update the colours to include all of the new ones. You get 19 new little chalk (Pastel) squares.

There's also at least $4 off a couple of Embosslits and check out the whopping $15 off the Pennant Bigz XL die. That's going to be popular!

This is the Happy Anniversary bunting I made with the Pennant die for my parents 40th Anniversary. Mum and Dad and my sisters and all our families hired a house by the beach for a weekend back in November, and we decorated the house in celebration. This looked great hanging from the mezzanine level.

I'm heading off to Melbourne today for our annual Stampin' Up! convention. It's the highlight of our year, and I can't wait to catch up with friends and learn lots of new crafty things. If you'd like to find out more about all the fun things you can do as a demonstrator click here, or contact me and I'll pop an info pack in the post for you.

How to Make Adhesive Glitter Shapes

Published by under Big Shot,cards

Ever wish you could add glitter to your projects in the shape of your favourite Sizzix dies

You can with the new Big Shot Multipurpose Adhesive Sheets (available now in the Autumn-Winter mini catalogue, #120805).

Today's pictorial tutorial shows you how!

Step 1. Grab an adhesive sheet. They come in packs of 12 sheets, each a full 12"x12".

Step 2. Cut a piece from the adhesive sheet to the required size.

In our sample I just need the number 4 from this die (it's part of the Simple Numbers set of dies). I don't want to waste any of the adhesive sheet by cutting numbers I don't need.

Step 3.  Place the adhesive sheet on your die with the printed side FACE UP.

This isn't a big deal if you are cutting something that is reversible (such as a flower or the number 0) but is very important for me cutting out the number 4. Why? Because the printed side is the backing paper which will be removed to expose the adhesive, which will then go face down on your project. If you forget this step your letter or number will be back to front! Trust me, this will make sense later on.

Step 4. Crank it through Mr Big.

Step 5. Remove backing paper (the printed sheet) to expose adhesive

Step 6. Adhere the sticky diecut to your project

Step 7. Press firmly all over the surface of the die cut.

This will ensure that the adhesive transfers from the backing paper onto your project. I like to use my trusty bone folder for this step.

Rub rub rub, then peel off the backing layer.

Step 8. Apply glitter.

Sprinkle glitter liberally. Shake the excess back into the glitter container. The Powder Pals trays (p141 IB&C) come in handy here.

Step 9. Brush off the strays.

And you're done! Very sparkly in real life.

Did you know?

You can create your own stickers from precut shapes by simply pressing them onto the Adhesive Sheet and pulling the shape up. Or you can apply card stock or Designer Series Paper to the Adhesive Sheet, run through the Big Shot, peel off the backing paper, and adhere. Great stuff.

Today is Good Friday and also my older sister's 40th birthday. Can't wait to see her on Sunday along with the rest of the family for all the birthday celebrations.

Easter blessings to you,

Ornament Punch Now Available

Published by under Big Shot,Sale-a-bration

The long wait is over! We're happy to announce the Extra-Large Ornament punch (item 119847) is now available to order.

The end of Sale-a-bration is a crazy-busy time, so I've been MIA lately.  But we're having lots of fun with the gorgeous Sale-a-bration sets… are you?

Here's a fun project featuring Bliss (I'm thinking that's been the most popular set this year):

The box is made from the 'Box No. 2' die, and of course the Scallop Envelope die for the other projects. They've been decorated with various embossing folders, the Tiny Tags stamps with matching Jewelry Tag punch and of course my favourite Sale-a-bration set: Bliss!

Kids Craft Idea: Foam Cut Outs

Published by under Big Shot,Fabrics & Textiles

Just wanted to share a quick and easy craft project that my girls have been enjoying during the summer holidays (especially Miss 4, our model for today's photos!). With two weeks left to go of the holidays some of us may be looking for activities to keep the kids occupied for a bit.

We picked up a couple of packs of foam from Kmart – I can't remember how much they cost but I know it was cheap ($1 maybe?).

They are the perfect size to fit through the Big Shot and come in a great range of bright colours.

The girls chose the Blossom Party die to make their cut outs (this Sizzix die is exclusive to Stampin' Up!), and made their sandwich stack to run through the Big Shot.

Not hard at all. In fact, this is fun!

They happily spent an afternoon cutting their own foam shapes and popping them out.

Then it was all 'action stations' as they used the shapes for various craft projects that are now decorating our (entire!) home.

(Slightly off-topic here- although I suppose you could liken it to a resist technique – but you might notice the love heart on Miss 4's hand…

True story, she had a Dora the Explorer temporary tattoo on her hand when we went to the beach and the skin around it tanned beautifully even though we Slip/Slop/Slap'd all the time. This is what's left now that the tattoo has gone! Oh dear – LOL.)

If you've got any other crafty activities to share with the kids, let me know in the comments section below.

Mini Milk Carton goes Festive

Published by under 3D projects,Big Shot,Christmas

Oh where does the time go? Here we are barreling along towards Christmas… aren't the days just zipping by?

This weekend we are celebrating my parent's 40th Wedding Anniversary and my son's 10th birthday! We're having a family reunion at the beach and I'm also going to the Melbourne Regional training day for Stampin' Up! demonstrators…  so before I carry on the hunt for the missing bucket and spade, I just wanted to quickly stop by and share this fun project.

The Mini Milk Carton die (p155 IB&C) was a surprise birthday present I received last week, and it's soooo cute! It creates adorable itty bitty boxes with the Big Shot. These really are small! Only a couple of inches tall BUT there is a nifty little trick where you can fold your paper a couple of times just inside the cutting lines to give the box extra height. The folds can be covered by ribbon or embellishments. A bit difficult to explain, maybe I'll have to do another 'pictorial tutorial' to share here? Let me know if you're interested.

Ooh, and you can fit quite a bit in there if you just fold the top and secure with a mini library clip, rather than sealing it with adhesive.

Stamps used are from Season of Joy, and the paper is Jolly Holiday. Colours are Cherry Cobbler and Old Olive (my fave combo at the moment). The ribbon is from the Mistletoe bundle which is FREE right now with the purchase of any our special bundles.

Happy stamping and have a wonderful weekend,
