CTC 170: Stampin’ Up!’s Hanging Garden

Published by under cards | Mar 18 2018

Hanging Garden card from www.simonebartrum.com. Products from Stampin' Up!. Welcome to the CASE-ing the Catty Blog Hop! This week I’m using the Hanging Garden stamp set.

CTC 170 Caseing the Catty Blog Hop

The CTC Crew are turning to pages 28-35 of the Occasions Catalogue for inspiration. We can use the layout, the colours, the stamps, or any other element as the basis for making another card.

I was drawn to this card on the bottom left corner of page 28 and chose to CASE (Copy And Selectively Edit) it this week.

I used both the layout and the ‘trio’ theme as inspiration, but instead of 3 containers of fruit I used 3 hanging baskets from the aptly named stamp set Hanging Garden.

Both cards use the Sale-a-bration Tutti Frutti Cards & Envelopes as the base, and coloured hanging baskets.

Some coordinating cardstock and ribbons finish these quick and easy cards. This is a great go-to layout, and is the perfect way to display the hanging baskets.

You can see the full list of products used to create both cards by scrolling down to the bottom of this post. Remember Sale-a-bration is still on, so it’s a great time to add a few extra stamp sets to your collection and get a .

My baskets and flowers were coloured with Stampin’ Blends alcohol markers, but would also look great using watercolour pencils, markers or ink. Remember, when colouring with alcohol markers you’ll need to stamp the image in Memento ink to keep the stamped lines sharp. If you are interested in gathering the full set of Blends over four months, then check out my popular Blends Club here.

This is such a fun stamp set! I loved colouring in those pretty hanging baskets and will definitely be colouring some more.

Our next CTC crew member in this week’s blog hop is Monique Fielder. Just click the Next button below and you can see her lovely creation.

A little chat… and a card, of course

Published by under cards | Mar 15 2018

Hi friends,

Goodness, it’s been a while since I last updated my blog. I’m still posting regularly over on my Stampin’ with Simone Facebook page – so make sure you follow that page for all the latest news – but my poor site here has been a little neglected.

But today’s the day!

I thought I’d say hello and share a few things that I’ve been up to recently. But first, some creative inspiration for you.

Eclectic Layers Thank You Card

This was my customer thank you card that went out recently, and features the Eclectic Layers dies, Hexagons embossing folder and Celebrate You (Sale-a-bration freebie) thinlits – among a few other things. It was inspired by a card that was in our quarterly demonstrator magazine.

I love the assortment of shapes and patterns on this card, and all the texture just feels so decadent. You can’t help but touch it.

My Happiness Project

How is it that only just now it feels like the year is getting underway? But we’re already halfway through March! Anyone else?

This is my last year with all three kids in school, so time very much feels like it’s slipping though my fingers. I read the book The Happiness Project last year, by Gretchen Rubin, which documents the author’s year in which she focused on a different life category each month with the ultimate goal of becoming an all-round happier and more joyful person. I’d like to think I’m pretty happy most of the time, but hey you can’t have too much happy!

Anyway, the book had a big impact on me, so I’ve gone about creating my own Happiness Project during 2018. It has been amazing so far! Even with some unscheduled hospital visits and surgery, it’s still a wonderful year.

From doing my Happiness Project, I have discovered that I love running (and if you know me well, please try reeeeeally hard not to laugh at that). I know, my family can’t believe it either. The kids are wondering what happened to their mum!

To be fair, it’s more like jogging…

And maybe from a distance it looks more like a shuffle LOL but I’ve discovered I actually LOVE it. We have a lake near our house, so this is the view I have when I’m jogging…

You can see why it might be addictive.

My next focus with the Happiness Project is ‘Decluttering’, so lets hope that becomes a new joyful hobby too!

Upcoming Classes

On the stamping front, if you are a newsletter subscriber you’ll know that the 2018 Class Schedule is out.

In addition to my regular stamp clubs, team events and in-home workshops and classes, there’s a new event for those who are close to Ballarat, Victoria: Coffee & Cards at Beechworth Bakery.

My good friend Debbie and I are co-hosting this monthly event on a Wednesday morning, and we had our first event there yesterday.

It’s such a gorgeous location: the Reading Room at the back of the cafe, surrounding by Encyclopedia Britannicas, wood-panelled walls and delicious coffee (or tea, or chai latte or hot chocolate – mmm yum).

It’s very casual and relaxed, and is designed to just be a quick creative fix while you enjoy a morning cuppa.

Learn more about the events here and hopefully you can join us next time.

And if you want to stay on a bit longer and enjoy a bee sting or one of the other yummy treats, well I certainly won’t stop you! xxx

Sale-a-bration: THIRD Release

Are you thinking of placing a Stampin’ Up! order before the end of March?

Well get excited, because there are now even MORE free gifts to choose from with a qualifying order.

Fourteen catalogue items were added to the list overnight. See them here.

You can have a good look at ALL of the level 1 Sale-a-bration gifts here (free with $90 order).

And check out all the level 2 gifts here (free with $180 order).

So there you go! Thanks for stopping by today, and listening to me waffle on. xxx

Now that life is getting back to some kind of routine, I’m looking forward to checking back in here more often and hopefully bringing some more crafty inspiration to your day.

Happy stamping,

Simone Bartrum, Stampin' Up! demonstrator Australia, Victoria

Stampin’ Up!’s Beautiful Peacock [Sale-a-bration Cover remake]

Published by under cards | Jan 28 2018

Stampin' Up! Beautiful Peacock (2018 Sale-a-bration stamp set)

Stampin’ Up! Beautiful Peacock (2018 Sale-a-bration stamp set)

Hi friends, It’s CASE-ing the Catty time. Yes, it’s that time of the week when we look to a Stampin’ Up! catalogue for inspiration, and this week it’s the Sale-a-bration brochure.

We looooove Sale-a-bration. Not just because we can all earn free gifts when we shop for new craft supplies, but also because we get lots of lovely new products to play with. Want to learn more? Click here.

After flicking back and forth a few times, I kept coming back to the same project. Right back… to the front cover, in fact!

Yes. That one.

The one with all that fussy cutting!

Stampin' Up! Beautiful Peacock (2018 Sale-a-bration stamp set)

It’s adorable, no doubt about it. But oh my all that fussy cutting just wasn’t going to happen in my craft room.

So I decided to challenge myself this week to make one just as sweet but a little easier to replicate.

And this is what I came up with…

Stampin’ Up!’s Beautiful Peacock Sale-a-bration stamp set

Stampin' Up! Beautiful Peacock (2018 Sale-a-bration stamp set) from www.simonebartrum.com

The stamp is a Sale-a-bration option (free with a AUD$90 purchase) called Beautiful Peacock. Peacock feathers are stamped on a die cut Stitched Shape circle, and only the body is fussy cut (breathe a sigh of relieve over that one).

This turned out to be a great compromise because it added detail without taking hours.

The embossing paste is the new Shimmery Paste. It doesn’t really show up well in the photo, but it is so sparkly! And almost translucent so you could definitely add colour to it and it will keep its sparkle.

Stampin' Up! Beautiful Peacock (2018 Sale-a-bration stamp set) from www.simonebartrum.com

Are you curious about the patterned paper?

It’s actually a card base – one of the free Sale-a-bration Tutti Frutti card and envelope packs. This is another great Sale-a-bration choice. Cut them in half, which is what we did here, they go twice as far!

One thing that nearly caught me out was the strip of patterned paper across the middle.

Finally I found it, right there in the Bubbles & Fizz Designer Series Paper. And you guessed it, this is another of the FREE Sale-a-bration options.

Wow, I just realised that almost entire card is made up of Sale-a-bration freebies. Nice!

And finally, here’s a hot tip for you:  If you have a big wish list and plan to earn all three gifts, then it’s best to put in a single $270+ order instead of three separate $90+ orders. If you do it at the same time, you’ll qualify for Stampin’ Rewards because the order is over $250. How cool! That will give you at least 10% of the value back in free product of your choice!
